KS2 ART EXHIBITION

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the KS2 Art Exhibition on Tuesday. The children really enjoyed taking their families on a tour of all the artwork they have made this year. Visitors were treated to a variety of artworks and mediums, from cave paints to pop art, illustration to street art. We were delighted to show you the progress of the children’s artistic skills through this academic year as well as showcase what is to come as they move through the school.

The feedback we received from the event was amazing. So many of you told us how much it meant to you to see your children being able to show and be proud of what they have done.

This event would not have been possible without the help of so many people at Sandfield. A big thank you to all the children for creating such wonderful artwork and helping to get the rooms ready for the exhibition. Thank you to all the teachers who provides us with the artwork and inspired the children to create it. A special mention goes out to Annie’s mum in year 5 who stepped in to help Mrs Di Marco and I in our hour of need. Finally, a massive thank you to Mrs Di Marco, who has spent hours planning this with me, creating the beautiful labels and making sure that I did not climb any ladders. We both thoroughly enjoyed planning and installing this exhibition and are so proud of the work the children have made this year.

NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS

RECEPTION CLASS

This week Reception Class have immersed themselves in maths learning about odd and even numbers. They were sorting odd and even pieces of Numicon and putting pieces together to see how the numbers change. They also ordered the numbers and wrote some calculations.

We have also enjoyed building dens, playing in the mud kitchen, making cakes and exploring in the sand pit digging and building sandcastles.

YEAR 1 & YEAR 2

What a very creative week we have had in Year 1 & Year 2. We have finished reading the Secret Sky Garden and this week we painted our own very colourful gardens, using different colours – we have quite a few budding artists!

In our English lessons we then wrote about how the colours we chose in our painting made us feel. We hope that you enjoy our paintings. Well done Year 1 & Year 2.

YEAR 3 & YEAR 4

This week in Year 3 and Year 4 we have been planning our very own Greek Myth, with menacing monsters, helpful Gods and magical objects. We finished off the week by designing and writing a detailed description of the island where our main characters will find themselves. The islands ranged in size and terrain, some were very dangerous whilst others appeared to be idyllic and welcoming until we found out something lurked beneath the waters. We are coming to an end of ‘The Secrets of a Sun King,’ with Lil and her friends finally returning the jar to its rightful place but the story does not end there……..
On Friday last week, Year 4 had the amazing opportunity to play in wonderful strings concert. All the children really enjoyed performing and we had a few tearful goodbyes with the instruments. We hope to see lots of you take up cello, violin or another instrument next year.

YEAR 5 & YEAR 6

On Monday Year 5 and Year 6 visited Holy Trinity Church.  As part of our RE curriculum, we looked at ‘The Golden Rule’.  This encourages us to treat each other as we would like to be treated.  The visit included an exciting trail around the churchyard to explore how we can look after our environment and help to save our wider world.
