The team showed incredible resilience, with every child breaking their previous record score and achieving a new personal best. Again, Sandfield achieved some top positions in both the boys and girls races, with Kimberly achieving a 6th place and Sebastian and Mathias achieving 10th and 11th respectively.   Well done everyone!

MESSAGE FROM THE SANDFIELD PTA

3 Trustees: this is a low-maintenance role which is mostly administrative.

Secretary: mainly administrative, minute taking etc.

Please let Mrs Collins know if you would like to discuss any of these vital roles further or would like to volunteer!

Sandfield PTA AGM: Thursday 3rd November 2022 at 3:45pm in the school library. All parents and carers are very welcome! If you are interested in any of the above roles or have any other ideas, please email Sandfieldschoolpta@gmail.com, or catch Emma and Nick at school.

Our next Fundraising event is the Comedy Bingo Night on Saturday 15th October!  Please let a member of the PTA or your Class Rep know if you can help set up or clear away, man the bar etc.  Your help is invaluable and we need you!

Harvest Assembly:This year Sandfield will be celebrating Harvest in our Assembly on Wednesday 19th October 2022.

If you can spare any tinned or packet produce for our Harvest celebrations, please bring these into the Learning Lab from Monday until Wednesday. Any fresh produce that you would like to donate needs to be brought in on Wednesday morning. If you would prefer to bring in a posy of dried flowers or corn dolls etc. please also bring these in from Monday.  If your child would like to decorate a shoe box to put donations in, please also bring these in from Monday. The PTA will deliver these donations of food to the needy in our community on Thursday.

Thank you to everyone who is able to bring in any donations.

Christmas Cards and Tea Towels: We apologise for mentioning Christmas so early(!) but we’re happy to tell you that this year the children will be designing their own Christmas (or seasonal) cards that you can buy, to send to friends & family. Not only are these very personal (and beautifully designed) but they also raise valuable funds for Sandfield, which are invested back into the children’s education and wellbeing.

From Monday 17th October, in school, your children will start designing their own cards. Further information on how to buy the wonderful creations to follow in due course. We hope you will love them!

Many thanks
Sandfield PTA

NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS!

RECEPTION CLASS

This week in Reception, the children explored hygiene and taking care of their bodies. They washed germs off hands, learned the importance of oral hygiene and gave the babies giant bubble baths. At the teeth brushing station, they reviewed the steps to brushing their teeth and shared their own teeth brushing routines at home. With the baby baths, the children were so gentle with the babies, making sure every part was cleaned and dried nicely afterwards.

For literacy, the children tried some purple fruits and vegetables – plums, grapes, kale and beetroot! Most children loved the grapes and kale but beetroot turned out to be an acquired taste. They used their senses to explore and describe then wrote initial sounds for the ‘menu’. We spoke about how many dark vegetables and fruit have the most nutrients for our bodies. They are looking forward to sharing their experience with the rest of the school in the Harvest assembly next week.

In PSED and Science, the children discussed how they’ve grown. We used past tense to discuss how we used to be as babies. We also focused on the skills and abilities they have now, that they didn’t have when they were babies. The children had fun noticing all the physical, psychological and behavioural changes in themselves. At the end of week, we played ‘Guess the baby’ with baby pictures sent in – they absolutely loved seeing themselves, their friends and even their teachers as babies!

If you missed the meeting for Reception Class on Tuesday, please click here to see the PowerPoint from Mrs Phillpot.

REMINDER: P.E days for Reception Class is Friday.

YEAR 1 & YEAR 2

What a fantastic week, the children enjoyed writing an invitation to  Alice inviting her to their Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.
We had such fun making Mad Hatter hats and crazy sandwiches. We also played pin the grin on the Cheshire cat, had a tea party and played Alice in Wonderland board games…a wonderful time was had by us all!
Reminder: PE days for Year 1 is Monday and Year 2 is Tuesday.

YEAR 3 & YEAR 4

This week, Year 3 and Year 4 visited Holy Trinity Church for workshops linked with the new RE unit – God’s rescue plan.

We all had a great time, exploring artwork for God as a mother hen, Moses dividing the Red sea so the Jews could escape Egypt and reading a variety of parables and stories. The children were all very excited to bring their artwork, jigsaws and origami chickens home!

The volunteers were so complimentary about our children, their enthusiasm and amazing behaviour.

Well done Year 3 and Year 4 – you are a credit to Sandfield.

Reminders: PE on Wednesday (outside) & Thursday indoors (shorts and t-shirts will also be needed)

Year 4 String Scheme takes place every Friday, please ensure all instruments are in school.

YEAR 5 & YEAR 6

Year 5 and Year 6 went on a fantastic trip to G live this week!  We had an exciting interactive performance from the author Christian Foley.  We learnt how to rap and freestyle using topics such as superheroes, Toy Story and Pizza.  Christian explained how important it was that he had the chance to read lots of books when he was a child to help him know thousands or millions of words to use in his raps.  He was really inspirational and the children were excellently behaved also!  Well done everybody.

REMINDER: P.E. days for Year 5 is Tuesday and Wednesday and Year 6 is Tuesday & Thursday.
