MESSAGE FROM MRS COLLINS

Carols by Candlelight

It was a joyous occasion on Wednesday 14th December, as the whole school and many families came together to sing carols in the church. A truly wonderful occasion.

Congratulations to our amazing choir, who performed with such confidence and musicality.  I know that Mrs Davey has really enjoyed rehearsing the choir and watching their singing skills develop week by week.   Also well done to our brave readers, who spoke with such assurance to such a large audience.

I was very proud of all the children who sang their phase group song so well and showed excellent behaviour in the church.  A big shout out Year 5 and Year 6, who were so kind and caring as they walked to and from the church with their Year R or Year 1 buddy.  It was lovely to see our oldest pupils look after our youngest.

Christmas Lunch

Sandfield enjoyed a fabulous Christmas lunch on Wednesday. This was prepared by our amazing Aspens catering team, who cooked over 230 Christmas dinners.  It was absolutely delicious. You can never have enough sprouts!

May I take this opportunity to thank our families for all their support this year.  It is so important that we work in partnership together to achieve the best outcomes for each and every child at Sandfield.
We wish you all a good holiday, whatever you do, and a happy, healthy New Year.
Mrs Collins and the Sandfield Team.

MESSAGES FROM THE OFFICE

**Breaking News –  Additional Community Fridge Day – Sunday 18th December opening 12 noon **

The Community Fridge at ZERO is open every Tuesday and Thursday at 10.30am – where visitors pick a counter providing them with their queue number – this ensures everyone has a fair opportunity to be the first user of the day!

Our supermarket suppliers are dedicated in supporting ZERO to reduce food waste which in addition provides a helping hand during the ever increasing cost of living with offering FREE surplus food which they have leftover. Our supplier’s generosity is enabling ZERO’s drivers the opportunity to collect from the stores this Sunday 18th December which we can then offer free to Guildford’s local community from 12 noon.

We are likely to receive the regular items such as bread, fruit, vegetables and cupboard stables but keep an eye out there may well be a few festive surprises due to shop’s stock rotation!! Thank you to our suppliers Co-op, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, M&S, Tesco and Hoxton BakeHouse for your support.

See you at 12noon this Sunday 18th Dec!

Admissions for September 2023 – Reminder from Surrey County Council

The closing date for Reception applications for September 2023 entry is 15 January 2023.

We encourage online applications via https://www.eadmissions.org.uk/eAdmissions/app, however parents can also request a paper application form or seek impartial help in completing an application via the Surrey Schools & Childcare Service (0300 200 1004, Mon-Fri 9am-5pm). Full information is available on Surrey’s website at www.surreycc.gov.uk/primaryadmissions.  Applications received after the closing date without good reason will be treated as late and will not be considered until all on time applications have been processed. This may jeopardise the chance of a parent being offered one of their preferred schools for their child.Kind regards,Ishbel Bouchez, School Admissions Manager

NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS

RECEPTION CLASS

Our last week of term has been full of festivities and naughty tricks from Evil Pea – the veggie villain from the Supertato series. She has been wreaking havoc in our classroom but we caught her on CCTV! The children wrote captions for the CCTV photos of Evil Pea using CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words and tricky words (the).

Outside, the children used tools to help mini Evil Pea’s escape from a block of ice. They smashed, hammered and some even licked the peas free! Some noticed that if they broke the ice into smaller chunks, it melted faster.

As scientists, the children explored light and dark. They used torches to help us read mystery words through a tube. This also led to discussions surrounding shadows. We spoke about humans and animals in relation to day and night activities. We found out that nocturnal animals sleep during the day and are busiest at night, unlike us humans.

We have had lots of festive games, dancing and cheer to send off our last week of term!

REMINDER: P.E days for Reception Class is Friday.
