MESSAGE FROM MRS COLLINS

What an exciting morning for the Eco Team!

The Ripley and Send Rotary Club made a very generous donation of £500 towards the new Green Wall, which will be built around the perimeter of Sandfield. Every child in the school will plant a section of this wall and this incredible donation will be used to fund the cost of buying these plants. The Eco Team are looking forward to researching which plants are best to help reduce the impact of pollution.

A huge thank you to The Rotary Club and Mr Ramcharan (Reuben and Matilda’s Grandad) for their part in supporting this exciting project.

After School Club Update

It is great that we have so many clubs that are running after school for Sandfield children.  Just a polite reminder on pick-up time for each club.  Please can you ensure your child is picked up at the specific time from the side gate.

ATTENDANCE THIS WEEK

Attendance Protocol

Attendance at school is key to children having the best opportunities to have a full education and learn to their highest potential .  As a school we have a procedure to follow to keep parents informed of their child’s attendance and when it begins to fall, this is a statutory requirement.  The flow chart shows the steps the school can take, whilst considering each child individually. It is important as a school that we understand and support families to ensure that attendance is as high as it can be for every pupil at Sandfield.

The school target for this year 2022-2023 has been set by the Surrey County Council Inclusion Team and is 97%

This week the whole school achieved 92.7%.

NEWS FROM THE INCLUSION TEAM

How to Get the Right Help if Your Child is Unwell

Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership have launched a new resource to help Surrey parents of children, aged from 0-5 years old, access the right NHS support if their child is unwell.

This new leaflet has been developed at a time when we are seeing a rise in attendances at A&Es and increasing pressures on the health system.

NHS services are there for those who need them and choosing the right service helps make sure that parents get the right help for their child. To help keep A&E for people who are critically unwell and urgently need help, it provides information and advice about the full range of help available to parents of young children 24/7.

The resource aims to help parents navigate the local health system more easily and provides bite-sized explanations of the help you can expect from pharmacies, NHS 111, Surrey 0-19 advice line, Call a Midwife and other NHS services. It also includes a one-page guide to keep at hand where you’ll find all important contact details for local NHS services and details of links to further support.

NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS

RECEPTION CLASS

This week, Reception got busy writing postcards from the Polar Regions. They worked hard to write full, simple sentences with finger spaces and full stops for the first time!

In maths, we compared numbers with a beanbag toss game and compared lengths doing husky races in the snow!

In our water tray, we role-played with icebergs (ice blocks) and began conversations about global warming. The children were able to see the effects of this on the polar habitats, as their icebergs melted and their polar animals lost their homes.

YEAR 1 & YEAR 2

A very creative week for Year 1 & Year 2.
As part of the innovation of the Izzy Gizmo story we created a vehicle for Fixer the Crow. In our DT lessons we trialed, designed and tweaked our designs before completing our final models.
What a fabulous bunch of inventors we have in KS1!

REMINDER: P.E days for Year 1 is  Monday and Year 2 is Tuesday.

YEAR 3 & YEAR 4

Year 3 and Year 4 have been fascinated by the work of a Belgian surrealist painter, Rene Magritte and have been using artist sketching pencils to recreate one of his famous paintings ‘The Domain of Arnheim 1962.’ We have been really impressed with their creativity and ability to look at proportion and sketching techniques.

We have also been investigating light in Science by predicting and then testing which materials reflect light. The children really enjoyed this investigation and literally shone a light on the mysteries of Science! Well done everyone!

Reminders: PE on Wednesday (outside) & Thursday indoors (shorts and t-shirts will also be needed)

Year 4 String Scheme takes place every Friday, please ensure all instruments are in school.

REMINDER: P.E. days for Year 5 is Tuesday and Wednesday and Year 6 is Tuesday & Thursday.
