Physical Education (PE) & Sport
Our Intent
At Sandfield, we believe that being physically active is essential for every child’s confidence, self-esteem, and overall well-being. Our aim is to inspire pupils to value a life-long active and healthy lifestyle, supporting both their physical and mental health.
Our Curriculum
Our PE curriculum has been carefully designed by sports specialists and is fully aligned with national curriculum objectives. Each week, children are taught by experienced sports coaches to ensure lessons are high-quality, engaging, and appropriately challenging.
Pupils enjoy a wide variety of activities, including:
- Athletics, cricket, cross country, dance, dodgeball, football, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rounders, swimming, tag rugby, and tennis.
- Indoor PE (gymnastics and dance) is delivered by Sandfield staff, ensuring continuity and progression across year groups.
Competitions and Squads
We are proud to participate in a range of sporting tournaments with other Guildford schools, giving our pupils the chance to compete at a high level. Lunchtime sports squad training, led by our coaches, is open to all children.
Representing Sandfield is a highlight for many pupils. Each squad is led by a Year 6 captain, who motivates and inspires their team. Go Team Sandfield!

Swimming In Key Stage 2, children receive two terms of swimming lessons in Years 5 and 6. Our goal is for every pupil to leave Sandfield able to swim at least 25 metres using a recognised stroke, with experience in essential life-saving skills.
