Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar

Spelling, punctuation and grammar is taught within each English lesson but there are also opportunities for dedicated SPaG lessons for key skills to be practised. These are in place to ensure children are more confident with the more mechanical aspects of writing, such as sentence formation, punctuation and ability to spell increasingly challenging words. There is a clear SPAG progression across the school and these progression documents can be found below by clicking the link for each year group.

Spelling is taught explicitly in each year group and we currently use ‘Spelling Frame’ to teach spelling rules and patterns. Spelling is important across the curriculum and we have high expectations in terms of addressing key words and high frequency words, which we expect to be spelt correctly at all times.
