MESSAGE FROM MRS COLLINS

Hot, Hot, Hot!

The forecast for next week shows high temperatures – summer is finally here.  Therefore we have asked all children next week to:

  • Wear their PE kit each day
  • Bring in a cap / hat
  • Bring in a water bottle
  • Ensure they have applied sun screen before coming to school

Please can everyone make sure that items are clearly named.

During next week, all children will be practicing for sports day, to make sure we are ready for our Sandfield Sports Day on Friday 16th June.  Therefore, being in our PE kit each day, will aid our practices.

Thank Yous!

In celebration assembly today we thanked all the staff involved in the Year 3 and Year 4 activity days and residential.  Our staff team were amazing and worked so hard to ensure all children had the best possible time.

Update on Sandfield’s Green Wall Project

Currently, we have scientists at Sandfield from Surrey University. They are monitoring levels of air pollution, prior to construction of the green wall.  You may have seen them in their hi-vi jackets around school.

The ivy screen around the perimeter of the carpark is going to be installed on Monday 19th June, with the living wall installed at the beginning of July.  Exciting times ahead!

Parent Reps

Sadly, due to new work commitments, Ashley has decided to step down as Parent Rep for Year 4.  Thank you so much to Ashley for all the support and advice that she has shared with parents in this class and please continue to contact Fran S should you need any help.

If you would like to contact your Class Rep, please click here>>

Parent Governor Election

As you know, we recently held a parent ballot for a Parent Governor.

We are pleased to announce that Carissa Ramkisson (mum of Jean-Sebastien and George-Marie) has been elected as our Parent Governor for Sandfield and thank her for her commitment to Sandfield to serve a further term of office.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend and stay safe in the sunshine!

Best wishes
Mrs Collins and The Sandfield Team

NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS

RECEPTION CLASS

First week back at school and we were greeted by 5 new friends!

Our tiny and very hungry caterpillars eclosed (hatched) from their cocoons early this week after 18 days with us. The children actually saw one eclose on Tuesday afternoon – they were mesmerised! We gave them juicy orange slices and watched as they slowly gained strength in their wings and fused their proboscis together to eat their juicy food. We released them into the wild on the sunny Thursday afternoon.

The child have loved caring for the caterpillars and butterflies. They have been closely observing the natural changes and applying their scientific vocabulary when describing the changes they see.

YEAR 1 & YEAR 2

We have had a fantastic first week back in KS1 learning all about the Titanic!

This week  we did a scavenger hunt to learn all about life in 1912, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. We also had a “Titanic Experience” day where the children were all given either a 1st, 2nd or 3rd class ticket and they experienced the games, dancing and other activities that children would have done onboard.

REMINDER: P.E days for Year 1 is  Monday and Year 2 is Tuesday.

YEAR 3 & YEAR 4

What a week!

Our intrepid adventurers have been learning forest skills and orienteering in the stunning Surrey Hills and building resilience on our epic walk back to school. Ice pops were well deserved!

Year 4 experienced a country classroom day out at Albury Park on Wednesday and planted a sapling hazelnut tree, learnt all about bees, visited a trout farm, saw eagle and barn owls up close and held some amazing amphibians and reptiles native to the UK.

Year 3 had a wonderful day out at the Spectrum, ice-skating and bowling and a particular highlight was a competitive rounders match at Stoke Park.

A wonderful few days and lots of memories created!

Reminders: PE on Wednesday (outside) & Thursday indoors (shorts and t-shirts will also be needed)

Year 4 String Scheme takes place every Friday, please ensure all instruments are in school.

YEAR 5 & Year 6

Year 5 and Year 6 had great fun in computing this week.

They were working on the Sphero Challenge where they created a map/ course for the other teams to  compete against each other to get around. Each team had to devise a clear set of instructions and obstacles to program their Sphero to navigate around. Teams had to work carefully together showing resilience, clear communication skills and creativity.  The obstacle courses could include LED commands, sounds, a circuit and timed stops in zones.  We can’t wait to see the final races!
