Pupil Premium and School Sports Partnership

Pupil Premium

Purpose

The pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.
The groups of pupils who qualify for this funding are as follows:

* a child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years (£1515 for the academic year 2025/26)

* a child who has been: looked after for 1 day or more; adopted from care or left care under a special guardianship order/a residence order/a child arrangement order (£2,630 for the academic year  2025/26)

Accountability

Accountability regarding the impact of pupil premium funding is measured in the following ways:·

  • Performance tables, which show the performance of disadvantaged pupils compared with their peers.
  • Requiring schools to publish details online each year of how they are using the pupil premium and the impact it is having on pupil achievement.
  • The Ofsted inspection framework, where inspectors focus on the attainment of pupil groups, and in particular those who attract the pupil premium.

Statement of Intent

As an inclusive primary school, our intention is to provide an inspirational and inclusive learning environment with opportunity for all. Our ultimate goal is that no child is left behind socially or academically because of disadvantage. We strive to raise lifelong aspirations and focus on removing barriers to enable all our PP pupils to be the best they can. Every member of our Sandfield team has high expectations and are responsible for improving outcomes of disadvantaged pupils.
Our Pupil Premium Plan aims to address the main barriers our children face and through careful planning, targeted support, delivery of quality first teaching and early intervention; provide all children with opportunities to thrive.

Sport Provision at Sandfield

At Sandfield Primary School, we believe that sport and physical activity are an important part of every child’s education and wellbeing. We want every pupil to enjoy being active, develop healthy lifestyles, and discover sports and activities they love.

We provide a wide range of opportunities for children to take part in sport, helping them to build confidence, teamwork, resilience, and a positive attitude towards physical activity.

Our Sports Coach leads 15 lunchtime sports clubs and squads, giving pupils regular opportunities to develop their skills, try new activities, and stay active throughout the school day. We encourage all children to attend at least one session each week.

The programme includes a variety of sports, such as football, cricket, tag rugby, gymnastics, and many more. All sessions are delivered in a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment and support the learning within our PE and Sport Curriculum.

Swimming

All pupils in Key Stage 2 take part in swimming lessons during the summer term of Years 5 and 6.

Lessons take place at The Spectrum, with children travelling to the venue on foot when possible and by coach during colder weather. Swimming helps children develop an important life skill while building confidence, water safety awareness, and lifelong healthy habits.

Please see our Sports Premium Report for information about Year 6 swimming outcomes and impact data.

PE and School Sports Partnership Network

The Government has introduced the PE and School Sport Partnerships Network to help bring sporting expertise into schools and encourage more children to be active.

Over the next three years, significant national investment will be made in school sport, including funding for the new Partnerships Network, improvements to sports facilities, and support for schools as the new programme is introduced.

Sandfield Primary School is awaiting further information about how schools can access and benefit from these opportunities and will share updates with our community as they become available.
