MESSAGE FROM MRS COLLINS

Fabulous Year 5  & Year 6 Production of Porridge!

What a show!  Who needs the West End when you can come and watch our amazing Year 5 and 6 pupils perform at Sandfield!

Every child participated with such enthusiasm and clearly enjoyed being part of something so special.  There was a great sense of team and pride for what they had achieved. Outstanding singing and carefully choreographed dance routines, impressed the audience greatly.  Our year 6 pupils showed such stage presence, using their acting skills constantly throughout the performance.  Every child worked hard to take on their character, delivering powerful performances.  I am sure we have some future stars of the stage and screen!

A big thank you to all the families and friends who came along to support and thanks to all of you, we raised an enormous £367 in donations that will also go towards next year’s production!  Thank you for laughing at the really bad jokes and clapping wildly.   Also to the staff who helped back stage with costumes, makeup and supervision.  Thanks to Mrs Grant for supporting the show with her Year 5 choir and for Mr Godber for the technical wizardry.  Our praise goes to our very talented director and choreographer, Mrs Davey, for producing such a high quality and entertaining show.  It was greatly enjoyed by all our Sandfield children and their families.  What a way to end this school year!

Planet Soccer Partnership with Sandfield

This morning we welcomed our new Sports Coaching team to Sandfield.

We started with a breakfast briefing to parents, to explain our rational for change and to discuss the new offer.  We will have a consistent staff team of Callum Roots, who has already visited Sandfield and met some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils.  Callum will be working alongside Jay and Louie.  This team will deliver all our sports squads at lunchtime, as well as the daily wrap around care and holiday clubs based at Sandfield.

It is an exciting new partnership with the aim of making our sports and wrap around care even better.   Many thanks to those parents who asked some excellent questions to the Planet Soccer Team.  Parent feedback is so important in this process of change.

The Planet Soccer Team then came into whole school assembly to meet all the children. Again, the children asked them some really good questions too!  This will ensure a successful start for the team in the new academic year.

NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS

RECEPTION CLASS

This week, our adventures took us back millions of years ago, to the land before time!

The children immersed themselves in the time when dinosaurs, colossal plants and temperamental landscapes ruled the Earth. The children experimented with frozen dinosaur eggs. They investigated the fastest ways to melt ice to free the dinosaurs. Some tried to use a combination of warm water and salt but found that the salt was actually slowing down the melting process. Others put their frozen eggs in the sunshine and in our playhouse to compare. They concluded that the hot, humid playhouse, despite its lack of sunlight, melted the ice faster because of the temperature compared to outside in the sunshine.

The children also loved exploring and learning about fossils. With their new wealth of scientific vocabulary, they were able to include words like trace fossils, body fossils and ammonites in their imaginative play when working on the fossil excavation site. The children also made their very own fossils using salt dough!

YEAR 1 & YEAR 2

Year 1 and 2 have had a great week as we both had a fantastic trip to the library.
The children all enjoyed exploring and learning all about how the library works and how the books are filed.  If you can, please sign up your child to the library and the amazing summer reading challenge!

REMINDER: P.E days for Year 1 is  Monday and Year 2 is Tuesday.

YEAR 3 & YEAR 4

Vive La France!

This week Year 3 and Year 4 have been transported across the Channel to experience the delights of a French café. They have been learning how to ask for different types of food and drink in French and creating their own menus using the vocabulary learnt. They looked at the menu and spoke French to our wonderful café volunteers. The children sampled croissants, bread, cheese, garlic sausage and pain au chocolat,.

Bon effort!

Reminders: PE on Wednesday (outside) & Thursday indoors (shorts and t-shirts will also be needed)

YEAR 5 & Year 6

Year 5 have enjoyed learning about the famous artist George Seurat, who created a whole new painting technique – Pointillism . This is where tiny dots of colour are painted close together so the human eye blends them to see a solid colour. We had great fun exploring this method using cotton buds and experimenting ready for our next session where we will create a river scene using the Pointillism technique.

Year 6 have had a fun-filled and frantic week this week!

Monday afternoon was the girls taster session at Guidlfordians Rugby Club on Stoke Park.  All the girls reported having fun and being interested in joining for next season!  Tuesday was the dress rehearsal for production and I know photos have gone out on Seesaw.  Wednesday was a Matrix transition afternoon where the class explored their thoughts, feelings and fears for the next stage of their learning.  Thursday was the last swimming session so involved floats and fun!  Then Friday was a trip to Guildford Library and some interesting reading-based activities.  Oh…….. and 2 awesome evening performances to a full audience on Wednesday and Thursday evening!!!!  What a week.  Well done everyone!!!

REMINDER: P.E. days for Year 5 is Tuesday and Wednesday and Year 6 is Tuesday & Thursday.
