MESSAGE FROM MRS COLLINS

Sandfield Win Again – Year 6 Football Tournament at Weyfield

This time Sandfield fielded a mixed team of 3 girls and 7 boys to enter this Guildford Football Tournament.

The team were amazing with their great teamwork and football skills on display.  They moved the ball well around the pitch and the possession was certainly in the Sandfield half, but scoring proved tricky! The team has many attempts, but luckily they did manage to find the back of the net eventually. One great goal was from the half way line.

Sandfield played three schools in the heats – achieving scores of 2- 0, 0-0 and 0-1, however, this was enough to put Sandfield through to the semi-finals!  Sandfield played Weyfield, beating them 1 – 0 and then in the finals they were victorious winning against Burpham 3 – 0.  Sandfield are certainly on a winning streak!  Watch out for news of our Year 5 football team who will be playing next.

Our winning team experienced the red carpet treatment at lunchtime before dining on the top table. We know how to celebrate at Sandfield.

A big thank you to Coach Mohammed and the commitment he shows to sport at Sandfield.  We couldn’t have done it without you.  Sandfield children have access to high quality coaching in our lunchtime squads and this is certainly making a big difference.  We may be the smallest school there …. but we dream big, practice hard and always work as a team.

ATTENDANCE THIS WEEK

Statutory Attendance Reminder

Each term we have a statutory obligation to remind parents of the school’s attendance policy.  Brief information is listed below but please make sure you familiarise yourself with the full policy which is on the school’s website, or to be taken straight to the document, please click here>>.

  • School must be notified by 9.15am each day that a child is absent – via Studybugs
  • If a call is not received and we are unable to contact you, further steps to investigate can be taken, which could result in a home visit from the school or police – we need to make sure everyone is safe
  • Children in all year groups who need to leave / arrive during the school day must be signed out or in to school, by an adult via the office
  • Medical appointments should be made outside of school hours for routine dentist and doctor appointments wherever possible – for any medical / well-being appointments during school hours a StudyBugs message can be accepted in advance – evidence of the appointment will still need to be provided via email (parents@sandfield.surrey.sch.uk)
  • A StudyBugs message can also be used for secondary visit absences
  • An Application for Leave of Absence in Exceptional Circumstances should be completed, in advance, for any absence of one whole day or more, other than illness – this form can be found on the parent page of the website
  • Leave of absence is not authorised during examination periods or at the beginning or end of terms.
  • Punctuality to school is crucial and for registration at the beginning of the day – lateness into school causes disruption to that individual’s learning and to that of the other pupils in the class
  • The school gates are open from 8.35 to 8.45am and registration takes place as children arrive
  • Pupils who arrive after 8.50am will be recorded as late to school and receive a late mark in the register.
  • Registers close at 9.05am – after this time lateness is recorded as an unauthorised absence and a missed session.
  • Persistent lateness of a pupil will be referred to the Home School Link Worker and/or the Local Authority Inclusion Officer and can be subject to penalty notices.
  • If children are taken out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not need to be consecutive), they will be liable to receive a penalty notice. Currently the amount payable under a penalty notice is £60.00 per parent per child if paid within 21 days.  Thereafter the amount increases to £120.00 if paid between 21 and 28 days. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court. Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent per child so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices.

The school target for this year 2022-2023 has been set by the Surrey County Council Inclusion Team and is 97%

This week the whole school achieved 94.3%.

On Tuesday, Sandfield is welcoming the Fantastic Fred Experience!

Each class will be visiting the The Fantastic FRED Experience throughout the day. NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS

RECEPTION CLASS

This week in Reception, we discussed Mother’s day and what makes our female carers special. The children were surprised when they came in with a special tea party, surrounded by photos of themselves with their mums, grandmothers and carers. They were thrilled to share what made their mother figures special and enjoyed role-playing.

In maths, we focused on number bonds to 10 and began learning names of common 3D shapes. The children had a brilliant time building castles, towers and intricate mazes with their 3D shapes. Some even invented a game with the spheres. It was amazing to see how the children were able to use their new vocabulary to enhance their play.

In English, we found a special egg that hatched into a baby blue dragon! We spoke about predictions and the children came up with their own predictions about the dragon. They enjoyed discussion, drawing and writing about what adventures their dragon got up to next – some dragons went to space, some learnt to do art and many went to soft play, AirHop and the park!

YEAR 1 & YEAR 2

Year 1 and Year 2 have had  a fascinating week learning all about The Earthshot Awards.

The children really enjoyed learning about how the winners are helping to repair our planet. We are focusing on the theme of “Revive Our Oceans” and how the winners are making a difference. Have a look at their amazing Coral Reef pictures!

REMINDER: P.E days for Year 1 is  Monday and Year 2 is Tuesday.

YEAR 3 & YEAR 4

Year 3 & Year 4 were scientists this week and identified the different parts of a flower. We used tulips to locate the stamen, carpel and pollen and the children were fascinated to discover how the colour of the flower is adapted to attract insects.

Last Friday we all enjoyed a little stroll to the nearby postbox. It was great to have a purpose for writing letters. Tell us when your letter has arrived!

Reminders: PE on Wednesday (outside) & Thursday indoors (shorts and t-shirts will also be needed)

Year 4 String Scheme takes place every Friday, please ensure all instruments are in school.

YEAR 5 & YEAR 6

Year 5 & 6 have been working really hard again this week.

In English, they have been writing their own narratives based on the text Viking Boy – such powerful writing using emotive language, varied punctuation and a careful choice of sentence structures to ensure their narratives have cohesion.  Fantastic writing everyone!

In RE, our focus has been learning about Muslim beliefs.  Abeera and Lubna both delivered their own presentations to the Phase Group, which were full of fascinating facts about their religion. They also answered maturely all the questions the children asked them and there were lots of questions!

REMINDER: P.E. days for Year 5 is Tuesday and Wednesday and Year 6 is Tuesday & Thursday.
